Grinding, the prototypical element found in most MMORPG’s (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games) has migrated considerably in previous years, so much so that virtually every genre today has incorporated the design element somewhere into their respective AAA titles. Such a reality isn’t too incomprehensible to fathom, especially considering the straightforward—and time-consuming nature—of the mechanic’s overarching premise. Grinding is, for the most part, the act of repetitively completing an objective, whether that’d be for the purpose of augmenting character attributes, acquiring certain items (e.g., in-game resources), or—in some cases—achieving a certain in-game ending/set piece.
